In recent years, there have been incidences of wild animals entering the city and creating panic. However, we need to give a thought, why are they entering our space? The green cover in India had been endangered since the last few years as urbanization is increasing. Human beings had been encroaching on wild animal spaces and destroying their natural habitat. The situation is not that bad although. Efforts are being made by the authorities to conserve wild animals in their natural environment. Authorities are trying to strike a right balance by maintaining urbanization and green cover among others through various measures. ‘Project Tiger’ is a tiger conservation program launched in April 1973 by the Government of India. The project aims at ensuring a viable population of Tigers in their natural habitat. The state of Maharashtra has preserved the green fabric well through various projects. Maharashtra has six dedicated tiger reserves by Tiger Conservation Authority of India thr

Seeing tigers roaming around in their natural habitats just 10 feet away is a unique experience. And with a high population of tigers, Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve offers this experience to thousands and thousands of visitors every year. And if you’d like to view the famous tigers of Tadoba closely, there are several factors you need to consider, especially the best time to visit the tiger reserve. When is the best time to visit Tadoba? This region boasts of a tropical climate, and that makes the months of winter the best time to be at Tadoba. The sweltering months of April and May are actually the best months to sight tigers in Tadoba, since the heat makes them come towards the cooler waterholes in the jungle. Post-monsoon October heat has the same effect, with lush greenery and beautiful flowers adorning the wilderness. That’s the reason the Tiger season in Tadoba starts in October. How to reach Tadoba : By Air: The closest airport is at Nagpur, from where o

Summer safari for Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

Image
Summer is not a reason for a picnic but is certainly a season for safaris. Summer may be a boring and dull season for many with scorching heat; however wildlife enthusiasts can rejoice as this is one of the best seasons for engaging in animal safaris. India has various national parks and world life sanctuaries that are harnessing the wildlife of the country. Many of these sanctuaries have been covered under the ‘project tiger or project lion’ programs that have been implemented by the Government of India. Basically, these sanctuaries were aimed to preserve wildlife and encourage tourist to these places. Summer is one of the best seasons for safaris as heat dries minor water sources in the forests and hence animals are forced to quench their thirst at the few remaining water holes. This creates an ideal situation for observing wildlife with a very high chance of animal sightings at these scarce water sources. Sparse and dry vegetation also gives the possibility of animal glimpses

Save your natural resources and maintain the ecology

Today, we are celebrating world water day and hence the importance of water is getting highlighted. The reason for celebrating world water day is to make people aware of the seriousness of preserving water and its repercussions in the future. The intention of world water day is to motivate people around the globe to learn about water-related issues and to take action. United Nations Water (UN-Water) coordinates the efforts of United Nation entities and international organizations working on water and sanitation issues. These organizations keep special themes every year on world water day and this year’s theme is ‘Leaving no one behind’. The theme tackles with the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are left behind and cannot have access to fresh water when they try to. We are learning since childhood ‘save water, percolate water’ and its severity was realized when many villages in India were facing drought conditions. However, there are many organizations

A surprise visitor at Tadoba creates excitement among tourists

Image
You always feel delighted and happy when you have guests around. The same eagerness was shared by authorities and tourists at Tadoba Andhari Reserve. Recently, a black panther was spotted at the jungle and everyone is amazed. Although Tadoba Andhari Reserve is known for its tiger population, the new entrant certainly made news that spread like a wildfire. Black Panther is a member of a big cat family and not a separate species. However, they are a melanistic color variant representing the cat family. The higher amount of pigmentation makes the big cat appear black. Black Panther is rare as the cubs are born out of gene mutation. The Black Panther has found its way in literature as well. Bagheera, the Black Panther serves as friend, protector, and mentor to ‘Mowgli’ in Jungle Book series. The other members of the cat family are lions, tigers, jaguar and leopard among others. Cheetah and cougar form a different species. Generally, leopards and jaguars are melanistic versions of

How reserves are the saviours of ecology

Image
We repetitively hear in the news about wild animals being seen into metros which are on the periphery of the jungle. It is, of course, breaking news and people shudder at the thought. However, we need to think the other way round. The wild animals are entering our territory as we have been encroaching on their spaces. The forest land in India has been continuously invaded to make way for concrete jungles. The result is the extinction of dwellings for wild animals while harming the ecology. However, we can breathe a sigh of relief wherein India has several forest reserves dedicated to wild animals. Although the lion is king of the jungle, the tiger has its own distinct identity in the woods. The diminishing number of tigers at an alarming rate has been decreased due to the efforts taken by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NCTA). ‘Project Tiger’ is a tiger conservation program launched by the Government of India for Bengal tigers. It aims for a viable population of tige

Tadoba also has other mammals like Indian leopards, sloth bears, Jungle Cats, and small Indian Civet among others. There are various reptiles, bird species, and insects that are balancing the ecosystem. The main attraction of the place is the safari showing tigers of Tadoba.
